Five Lessons I Learned as a Corporate Lawyer
I learned a LOT working in corporate law for over 6 years—and today I’m sharing a few of the lessons I wish I had known when I started out.
Lasting success requires a lot more than raw skill. Confidence, communication, and knowing how to effectively manage your energy are just as important. It’s completely normal to need to build these skills, especially in the beginning. Find mentorship, peers, or coaches to help support you in getting there.
You cannot blindly push through stress every single day. You will eventually burnout. Self-care is crucial for longevity—and it’s way more than getting your nails done. I have strong opinions about what self-care actually means; join my newsletter or follow my Instagram to get my free tips!
It may seem impossible to make time to conquer self-doubt & set up lasting, helpful routines. It’s not. The investment in yourself is essential & will catapult your career growth. It can feel hard to make that time when you are already scrambling to keep up with your workload, but the payoff is so worth the effort. Get support and accountability if you struggle with making these things a priority.
Learning your own boundaries and limits is also crucial to long-term success. Your performance isn’t going to look like everyone else’s. That’s okay. You’re still just as valuable. In fact, knowing when you cannot take on more without your quality of work—and life—declining is crucial. You are not here to do the most in the least amount of time. You are here to provide your unique input, perspective, and value to your role. You cannot do that when you are frazzled and burnt out.
Don’t spend too much effort trying to fit in to the corporate world. It’s going to zap too much of your energy. Focus instead on doing the work to be confident in who you are. You will be surprised at how much further owning your uniqueness will serve you in your career.
